Northern white cedar is a common evergreen tree in swamps and seepage areas in northern Minnesota. It also grows on rich, moist upland soils, and on shady, rocky bluffs. A beautiful conifer. Can grow in sun, but roots prefer shade. A favorite food of deer, so young trees must be protected where deer are abundant.
